Note: Work from home is a universal term for working remotely; some FH staff members enjoy working from coffee shops, libraries or even the car dealership while their vehicle is being worked on.
Employers today offer many benefits that did not exist ten years ago — and many of these office perks are non-negotiable for Millennials. It is not enough to offer competitive pay, healthcare and vacation time. Millennials (like me) want so much more from a workplace. While there are a variety of awesome perks of working for a flexible employer like FH, one of my favorites is the ability to work from home.According to a recent Gallup poll, the average U.S. worker telecommutes to work two days each month and 80% of people in the workforce would like the ability to work from home. There are so many benefits to working from home for both employees and employers.
Shorter commute: Driving to work and getting stuck in traffic can eat into productive working hours. The commute from bed to the kitchen table with a travel time of 10 seconds cannot be beat. The ability to work from home and save the drive time can make your work from home day one of the most efficient and productive days of the week.As an added bonus, skipping the drive is also environmentally friendly by reducing CO2 emissions.
More Productive: While some employers assume that employees are less productive when working from home, many employees report being more productive in the quiet home environment. According to a 2016 survey, 93% of employees reported they’re more productive when working remotely. Sometimes the quiet and comfortable home environment is exactly the right space for completing difficult tasks.
Work/life balance: When life gets busy, it is easy to prioritize work over home life. The ability to work from home can help ease the stress of feeling like work is taking over. The ability to put in a load of laundry or accomplish other personal tasks during lunch is a great way to balance work and home life.
Top talent: As an employer, you want to hire the best talent available to help you succeed. As an employee, you want to work with the best in your industry—just like they say, you never want to be the smartest person in a room. Offering work from home is one way a company can recruit top talent.Additionally, studies show that offering the ability to work from home increases workplace morale, making a happier work environment for all.Tell us, what’s your favorite part of working from home?
