What brings you joy at work? What inspires you?
Building meaningful relationships with teammates and clients is what drives me to show up with a smile on my face every day. I love learning new things, solving problems — oh, and landing national media hits is a plus, too!
What drew you to the communications field?
Getting my journalism degree at Ohio University (go Bobcats!), I knew I wanted to work in or around the news industry somehow. What I didn't know was whether that would place me on air as a broadcast journalist, in a magazine newsroom or in the wonderful world of public relations. After several internships, I found myself in agency life and haven’t looked back since!
How do you approach creating a memorable client experience?
To me, creating a memorable client experience is all about understanding your client's needs, anticipating what’s next and bringing consistent, quality work to the table. The best relationships are built on trust and a shared goal.
What trends are you keeping an eye on for 2024?
From a media relations perspective, it’s difficult to ignore shrinking newsrooms and its impact on our day-to-day jobs. With fewer reporters covering broader beats, it’s critical that we as PR practitioners are being thoughtful with our strategy and outreach to respect reporters’ inboxes while still making an impact for our clients.
What’s the biggest win or most exciting work you’ve done throughout your career?
Looking back over the past year, one of my most exciting media wins was with Fast Company: Boston Dynamics and DHL’s new robot is a hyper-efficient warehouse worker. This story had it all — a powerful headline, incredible imagery, strong quotes and links galore!
What tools/websites do you use to keep up with the latest trends and news?
Morning newsletters are my favorite way to get up to speed on breaking news and trends while sparking inspiration. Between reading Morning Brew and The Skimm for quick downloads on all things business, trends, policies, politics and more, I feel ready to take on the day.
What are you listening to while focusing on getting work done?
I love listening to lo-fi electronic music to get in the zone, particularly if I’m writing or working on a hefty strategy. The consistency helps with focus and has even been shown to have a calming effect on the brain!
What are you most looking forward to in your role with Slide Nine?
Being a “boomerang” employee, I couldn’t wait to return to the Slide Nine culture I grew to love. Pair that with the opportunity to tell interesting stories for my clients, and that’s a match made in heaven.
