Get to Know Nigel

01. Describe yourself in nine words.

Always-learning, music-loving guy — loves writing, talking, listening.

02. What are you most proud of accomplishing in the past quarter?

My proudest accomplishment has been balancing the exciting projects I’m involved in across accounts. This last quarter, I’ve worked on a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a newsletter launch, several fascinating research projects and landing interviews that showcase our clients’ extensive expertise. It’s been a lot to manage, and I couldn’t have done it without my amazing Slide Nine teammates, who were there for me every step of the way.

03. What challenges at work inspire you the most?

Complicated ones that synthesize topics from a variety of fields. In college, I was a triple major — communications, history and political science — and I loved studying issues where those subjects intersected. It’s the same in PR: I love solving problems that require some research, some creative thinking and a bit of experimentation. Plus, challenges like these give me a bonus opportunity to tap the expertise of the awesome people on my team!

04. What do you do to relax and recharge outside of work hours?

I love reading, and at any given time, I’m probably in the middle of about half a dozen books — a history book or two, a current novel, a classic novel and a musician’s biography. I also love listening to music (as you know if you’ve spent more than 30 seconds with me!) and going for long walks.

05. What’s your go-to coffee order?

When I’m down in Columbus, I love an iced Mayan Mocha from Crimson Cup — chocolatey, creamy and refreshing. Up here in Cleveland, I love seasonal drinks from Erie Island Coffee Co., like their Iced Rose Cardamom Latte.

06. What do you plan to do with your bonus or extra PTO day?

I’ve been setting up a designated office area, but it’s looking a little bit sparse, so part of the bonus will go to some knick-knacks to make it feel more like home.

07. What’s your favorite Slide Nine memory?

My favorite memory is the Columbus Clippers game we attended together last Summer. I remember nothing about the game itself (we won, right?); what I remember is how it drove home that I was surrounded not just by earned media wizards, amazing content writers and world-class strategists, but also by caring, witty people who are truly great to be around on and off the clock.

08. If you could spend nine days anywhere in the world, where would you travel?

I’d love to travel to Europe, get a rail pass and check as many countries off my bucket list as I can!

09. Who is your favorite social media creator?

As a music nerd, I love Pitchfork’s social content, especially their “Perfect 10” posts asking a diverse array of musicians what album they’d give top marks. Brand-side, I’m a fan of Celestial Tea. There’s a lot to learn from how their content always stays on-brand while being witty and timely — though having a lovable bear for a mascot certainly helps, too!
